A MODEL EMPLOYER

Over 100 employees and a continuity of family management have helped Megatran perform outstanding work and win recognition and repeat business from Florida Power & Light, Tampa Electric, Orlando Utilities and many others. The company subscribes to and endorses the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce “Model Code of Business Ethics.” It has been named “Underground Utility Contractor of the Year” by the Latin Builders Association and is among the top Hispanic-owned businesses in America.

Amado J. Acosta, PE
CEO, CFO
Amado “Al” Acosta founded Megatran in 1986 and combined a skilled work force, a safety-first attitude, responsive service and top-quality performance to build this award-winning Florida supplier of services for electrical utility, communication and lighting infrastructure.

Amado earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and graduated with Honors at the University of Illinois in 1963. He held engineering positions at Illinois Bell Telephone Company and Allis Chalmers before joining Florida Power & Light Company in Miami in 1966. For nearly 20 years, he advanced at FPL through operations, engineering, customer service and public affairs functions, then became Manager of a Commercial Branch Office in Little Havana.

Amado served on the Florida Board of Professional Engineers for eight years. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida and a Certified Florida Master Electrician. He has numerous awards from engineering associations and civic groups for his professional and personal activities. Amado has been published nationally and has held leadership positions in numerous professional associations.

Michael B. Acosta, PE
President, Megatran, Inc.
As President of Megatran, Michael Acosta plans and directs daily operations to assure proper response to every job, to make optimum use of company resources and to achieve corporate objectives established by the management team and the CEO.

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and graduated Summa Cum Laude at the University of Miami in 1987. While pursuing his degree, Michael worked at E. N. Bechamps & Associates in engineering support of projects at Miami International Airport and nearby hotels. Later, as a Project Engineer, Michael supervised and designed multidimensional roadway improvements, office park developments and related projects in Broward and Dade counties.

Michael joined Megatran in 1990 as Construction Services Manager, responsible for costing, planning and supervising work on multiple projects. He expanded Megatran’s work in substation site development and other underground utility work with projects in South Florida, Orlando/Kissimmee, Jacksonville and elsewhere. Michael became Executive Vice President at Megatran in 1997 to plan, organize and execute statewide work by crews or subcontractors. As team leader for URD supervisors, and with oversight day-to-day, he prepared for top management at a successful, growing Megatran. In 1998, he became President of Megatran.

Michael is a Florida Registered Profession Engineer and holds state contractor certified licenses for General, Electrical and Underground Utilities Contracting. He has numerous engineering, leadership and achievement awards from professional, educational and civic organizations. Michael has attended dozens of courses on safety, management, leadership and other skills and he has published papers on management strategies and corporate excellence.

Richard A. Acosta, EI
Operations Vice President
Richard Acosta directs the operations of Megatran’s Broward office, established in 2003 to assure delivery of Megatran’s responsive, top quality work in a growing part of South Florida. This expanded staff and fleet, because of Megatran’s extensive underground distribution experience, is poised for future growth as utility and other demands expand toward Palm Beach and Martin counties and points north.

Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Florida International University and a Certified State license as an Electrical Master. His work for Megatran began during high school summers, pulling cable and “learning the ropes” on URD and Substation projects. He worked part-time during college learning other functions before becoming full time Operations Supervisor for Megatran projects in northeast Miami-Dade County and all of Broward County.

Richard now manages all URD, Duct Bank and other operations in Broward, including training, major bid proposals and maintenance of equipment large and small. He oversees the scheduling and control of all manpower, equipment and material resources in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Pedro J. “Pete” Carvajal
Operations Vice President
As Operations Vice President, Pete Carvajal helps keep Megatran reliable and responsive on the most demanding, time–sensitive projects. He oversees the scheduling and control of all manpower, equipment and material resources in Miami-Dade County. Pete helps Megatran respond to demands throughout its primary market, but he brings special expertise to the most difficult areas of South Florida: Downtown Miami and Miami Beach. Work in these areas typically involves old, inaccessible, confined underground facilities established in the early days of Greater Miami. Any work is difficult. Quality work requires the kind of skills and experience Pete brings to his job every day.

After he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish Literature at Saint Peters College in New Jersey, Pete began work at Florida Power & Light in customer service and field investigations. He took classes in management, computers and quality control and joined FPL’s management team at its Little Havana branch office as Customer Service Supervisor. He has been with Megatran since it opened for business in 1986.

Salvador Garcia, P.E.
Director, Operations and Systems
Salvador Garcia manages underground construction details for all Megatran projects. He coordinates crews and equipment deployed to work on power and communications projects. Because of his extensive background in computer-aided design and other technological support, Salvador also is responsible for the direct oversight and management of Megatran’s extensive Management Information Systems (MIS).

Salvador holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Florida International University, where he taught and did graduate work to complement class projects involving complete waste-water and water supply designs. Before joining Megatran, Salvador was Project Engineer or Project Manager with established South Florida engineering firms on projects that included major road, parking and drainage designs for airports in Miami and Palm Beach, the Port of Miami, MacArthur Causeway and other public and private South Florida facilities.
